Queer Network PROGRAM

BIOS of QPOC Liberation Project Organizers

Joanne Alcantara is a bi-queer, Philippine-born mixie of Filipino and Chinese ancestry. She's the Queer Network Project Manager at the Asian & Pacific Islander Women & Family Safety Center. Joanne also organizes with Gabriela Network, a fabulous and friendly Philippine-US women's solidarity organization.

Jenn Bowman is a queer, mixed race/black woman always looking for hope and inspiration to continue to work toward radical, social change. She helped organize the QPOC retreat in 2004 and 2005 and has been involved with various social change projects in Seattle and Olympia area for the past eight years. She will be starting a graduate program in the fall pursuing a Masters Degree in Social Work at the University of Washington.

Luzviminda Uzuri Carpenter or Lulu is a military brat who hails from eastern Washington (and before that, from sunny Florida). She moved to Seattle in search of brown people and found them everywhere. The story doesn't end there, because upon arrival into the port of Seattle she was hit with a stunning revelation: yes, you guessed it, she is Queer! Her stories from college will astound you, but the fun has just begun and the stories keep getting better as she becomes involved within various communities volunteering for QPOC, Gabriela Network Seattle Chapter, Asian Pacific Islander Women and Family Safety Center, Central District Forum for Arts and Ideas, and many more. Does she have a day job? Hum?

Lisa Chan is a queer Chinese-American immigrant lesbian transplanted to Seattle from Queens, NY with working-class family roots. She is humbled and honored to be a part of QPOC Liberation Project, and is enormously grateful to everyone’s efforts in creating safe space and building a sense of community. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, learning to swim and rock climb, and dreaming of the Mets winning the World Series (maybe this year!).

Darius Soo Lee Morrison is a transgendered Korean adoptee. He has been organizing with many of these awesome QPOC's since 2004. When he's not organizing with the fierce QPOC Liberation Project he plays guitar in the trans-rock duo Nation of Two. Darius loves QPOC's, time consuming art projects, and cooking elaborate meals.

Yasmeen Perez is a karaoke loving Filipina Jew. She currently works as the Co-Director at Seattle Young People's Project, a youth-led social justice organization, where she organizes for youth liberation, racial justice, queer rights, and more! Yasmeen has been a part of QPOC organizing in Seattle since 2004.

Nathaniel Shara is a radical queer South Asian committed to anti-oppression organizing and social work for social justice. He is currently working at the Asian & Pacific Islander Women and Family Safety Center and pursuing a Master's in Social Work at the University of Washington.

Philippine-born Wakx (Joaquin) Uy has been involved in queer progressive/radical politics and organizing since college. Currently, he is a supporter of the Bayan-led National Democratic struggle for freedom and peace in the Philippines and can be found involved in various artistic endeavors and media projects, including but not limited to video, public affairs radio, and not sleeping.
